Terms of Service
By using Mostro, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
Last updated: August 29, 2026
1. Open Source Software
Mostro is an open-source software that is available for anyone to use, copy, modify, and run. The developers are not responsible for the actions of other individuals using the software in any manner, whether legal or illegal, honest or dishonest.
2. No Warranties
Mostro is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, and the developers make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, with respect to Mostro or its use.
3. Best Efforts Security
The developers and the dispute resolvers make their best efforts to remove bad actors, frauds, and scams from using Mostro, but the user recognizes that the system can be exploited and accepts full responsibility while using it.
4. Limitation of Liability
Neither the developers nor the dispute resolvers are responsible for any losses or damages that the user may suffer as a result of using Mostro.
5. Non-Custodial Protocol
Mostro is a protocol and a set of open-source implementations, not an exchange, a broker or a custodian. It never takes ownership of your funds or your keys: during a trade the sats are locked in a Lightning hold invoice between you and your counterparty. No account is created for you and no personal data is required to trade.
6. Independent Coordinators
Every Mostro instance is operated by an independent third party that sets its own fees, policies and dispute resolution process. Those operators are not agents of the Mostro developers, who neither control nor endorse them. The availability of any instance, relay or Lightning node is not guaranteed, and a trade may fail or be delayed for reasons outside anyone's control.
7. Legal Compliance
You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of Mostro is lawful where you live, and for reporting and paying any taxes that apply to your trades. Do not use Mostro if peer-to-peer Bitcoin trading is prohibited in your jurisdiction or if applicable law bars you from using this kind of software.
8. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated at any time, and the version published on this page is always the one in force. Continuing to use Mostro after a change means that you accept the updated terms.
